It was deep in the Ecuadorian Amazon, during a National Geographic expedition led by filmmaker Bertie Gregory. The team was navigating a river system when they spotted something almost inconceivable: the colossal, patterned coils of a green anaconda (Eunectes murinus) resting in the shallows. This wasn't just a big snake. This was a leviathan. Initial measurements on site suggest the individual female could be over 26 feet long and weigh more than 500 pounds (around 200 kg), with a head as large as a humans. To put that in perspective, thats longer than a large pickup truck and as heavy as a grand piano.
