An Underwater Proposal Ends in Tragedy, Love Becomes a Disaster

Steven Weber and Kenesha Antoine vacationed at the Manta Resort on Pemba Island, Tanzania, an exclusive retreat with underwater bedrooms offering stunning ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows. The vacation was supposed to be an unforgettable romantic getaway, but fate had other plans. On September 19, 2019, Weber planned a spectacular proposal. He dived out of his room with a handwritten note expressing his love and the question, "Will you marry me?" Antoine filmed the moment from inside, witnessing Weber's lovingly planned surprise. After showing the note and opening the ring box, Weber swam to the surface, but never resurfaced. Resort staff and bystanders immediately responded when Antoine realized Weber was missing underwater. Weber's body was eventually recovered from the depths by rescuers, and he was treated and given CPR, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
