Immerse yourself in the exquisite atmosphere of the Italian Baroque with one of Francesco Antonio Bonporti's most striking works. His Inventions for violin and basso continuo are true masterpieces of instrumental thought, long erroneously attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach himself. Bonporti, a priest from Trento, created music that is striking in its harmonic boldness and melodic grace. The Invention in A major from Op. 10 (first published in 1712) demonstrates a perfect balance between virtuosity and profound emotion. The bright and cheerful key of A major lends the music a special radiance and lightness.
Bach personally transcribed four of the Inventions from this cycle for harpsichord, so impressed was he by the talent of his Italian contemporary. Until the early 20th century, these works were considered authentic works by the great German, until researchers restored Bonporti's authorship.
