After harvesting, the outer layer of bamboo is peeled off. The bamboo is then flattened, soaked in water, debarked, and cut into short sections. These bundles are then soaked in a lime solution to remove impurities and help the bamboo fibers break down more easily. Next, the bamboo is thoroughly washed and boiled in large pots for several days until the fibers become completely soft. Once the bamboo reaches the desired softness, it is ground into a pulp using traditional stone grinders. This bamboo pulp is then mixed with water and stirred to form a slurry. Skilled craftsmen use special molds to carefully scoop out thin layers of pulp, creating the first wet sheets of paper. These sheets are then pressed to remove excess air and carefully laid out on drying boards one by one. The final product is a type of paper with a smooth surface, high durability, and excellent ink absorptionhighly prized for calligraphy and traditional ink painting.
