We continue our exploration of the treasure trove of Italian Baroque with the Third Invention by Francesco Antonio Bonporti (1672–1749). After the pensive Second Invention, the composer returns us once again to light and clarity—Invention No. 3 in F major from Op. 10 shines with purity of line and joyful energy.
Bonporti, a contemporary of Vivaldi and a master of chamber music, creates in this piece a model of graceful and refined music. F major, a key often associated with pastoral moods and tranquil joy, lends the piece a serene and transparent character. The music flows easily and naturally, reminiscent of a lively yet polite conversation in an Enlightenment salon. The Invention demonstrates a perfect balance between rigorous contrapuntal science and purely Italian melodic generosity.
The trio of talented musicians—Bancini, Nasillo, and Christensen—with their characteristic sense of style and ensemble unity, reveals all facets of this music. Their performance is distinguished by crystalline articulation, an impeccable sense of tempo, and a subtle dynamic pattern that highlights both the luminous lyricism and the playfulness hidden in the voices' movements.
This video is an invitation to enjoy rarely performed but incredibly refined music that, like a ray of sunlight, carries the harmony and refined beauty of the Baroque era.
