President donald trump
United States President Donald Trump alluded to America's role in leading the Allied forces in winning World War II during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday (January 22, 2026).
He said that without that victory, Europe would be speaking German and Japanese today.
Trump made this claim as an argument to justify his efforts to acquire Greenland.
"After the war, which we won, we won big. Without us (America), right now, you would all be speaking German and maybe a little Japanese," Trump said.
