Osman Ghazi, also known as Osman I, was the founder and first ruler of the Ottoman Empire. He was born in 1258 in the town of Söğüt, in what is now Turkey, and belonged to the Kayi tribe. He was the youngest son of Ertugrul Ghazi, a warrior and chief of the tribe, who had established a principality in the region.
