In this video, we present a gem of Johann Sebastian Bach's keyboard work—the French Suite No. 4 in E-flat major (BWV 815). This work, created by the great composer during his time in Köthen (c. 1722-1725), is part of the famous cycle of six "French Suites."
Despite the name, the suites themselves are not purely French music. The term "French" was coined after Bach's death by his biographer, I.N. Forkel. In fact, in these suites, Bach brilliantly synthesizes Italian, French, and German musical traditions, creating a unique style.
The French Suite No. 4 in E-flat major is a bright and joyful work. As researchers note, Bach often creates his unique melodies here from the simplest musical elements, transforming them into something majestic and beautiful.
