M7.7 Quake Hits Flores: Port Bridge Collapses, People Fall Into Sea
A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Flores region, East Nusa Tenggara, on the morning of Saturday, August 15, 2026. The quake caused severe damage at Lorens Say Port in Maumere, Sikka Regency.
Shaking from the quake caused the ship access bridge at the port to collapse, throwing several people into the sea. In response, BMKG immediately issued a tsunami early warning and urged residents along the coast to evacuate to higher ground.
