THE EXPENSIVE CAR IN THE WORD
The Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is a bespoke, one-of-a-kind coachbuilt roadster valued at over $30 million. Commissioned by an international power couple and unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2023, it stands as one of the most exclusive and intricate modern motorcars ever built.
Design & Inspiration
The Black Baccara Rose:The car's concept is built around the Black Baccara rose, a velvet-like flower native to France.
True 'Mystery' Paint Finish: The exterior paint color—dubbed *True Love*—took over 150 iterations to perfect. It features a base coat followed by five layers of clear lacquer, each mixed with a slightly different red tone. This gives the body a dynamic color shift, appearing black in shadow and dark red under direct light.
Custom Low-Slung Roadster Silhouette:Unlike traditional four-seater Rolls-Royce convertibles, the Droptail is a low-slung, intimate two-seat roadster with a swept-back rear deck and a removable electrochromic glass roof.
Artisanship & Interior Details
Hand-Crafted Parquetry:The defining feature of the cabin is the rear "shawl" panel, which flows forward between the seats. It is made from 1,603 individual piecesof Black Sycamore wood veneer hand-cut and arranged to represent falling rose petals. The woodwork alone took nearly two years to design and assemble.
Integrated Audemars Piguet Timepiece:Set into the center fascia is a custom 43mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph. The client requested that the watch be removable via a powered clasp mechanism so it can be attached to a strap and worn.
Bespoke Champagne Chest:The owner commissioned a matching, motor-driven champagne chest built directly into the car, holding custom-matched Champagne de Lossy bottles.
