Overcoming Your Desires

My dear brothers and sisters, Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “If you could overcome your fancy and lust, you'll be in a rank that's higher than an angel.” The greatest victory is not defeating others—it is defeating your own desires when they call you toward what displeases Allah. Allah ﷻ says: “But as for he who feared standing before his Lord and restrained himself from his desires, Paradise will be his refuge.” Qur’an 79:40–41 Every time you control your anger, lower your gaze, resist temptation, or walk away from sin for Allah’s sake, you are winning a battle within yourself.
