Collectors of the original 1928 Mickey Mouse film know a warning that was never written down: Never pause the reel on a black frame. A projectionist breaks the rule inside an abandoned cinema and sees something impossible on the screen — the theater from behind him, an empty seat beside him, and a version of himself that suddenly disappears from the projection booth.
