Chinese EV manufacturers have become extremely competitive through large-scale manufacturing, aggressive pricing, battery production, fast innovation, and an enormous domestic market. Companies such as BYD, NIO, XPeng, Geely, and Xiaomi are pushing technology and features forward while competing heavily on price.
American manufacturers have taken a different approach. Tesla, Ford, General Motors, Rivian, and Lucid have focused heavily on software, performance, technology, established automotive brands, and vehicles designed for the North American market.
But there is a major difference between the two markets.
China has become the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturing hub, while the United States continues to face challenges when it comes to affordable EV models. In 2025, around 30% of Chinese BEV models had an entry price below $20,000, while fewer than 20% of EV models available in the United States were priced below the median price of a new gasoline vehicle.
So which country is actually winning the EV race?
