It’s Not An Aircraft..." 🚨 Pilot’s Terrifying Final 17 Seconds (Frederick Valentich)
On October 21, 1978, 20-year-old Australian pilot Frederick Valentich was flying a single-engine Cessna 182L across the Bass Strait toward King Island. At 7:06 PM, Valentich contacted Melbourne air traffic control to ask if any military aircraft were operating in his sector.
Melbourne confirmed: "No known aircraft in the vicinity."
Over the next six minutes, Valentich reported a massive, metallic object orbiting directly above him at high speed, illuminated by four bright, green landing lights. He described the craft orbiting his plane, vanishing and reappearing instantly, before hovering stationary directly over his engine.
His final recorded words over radio were: "It is hovering and it's not an aircraft..." followed by 17 seconds of an unidentifiable metallic scraping noise before total radio silence. Neither Valentich nor his aircraft was ever seen again.
In this dossier, we review the unedited air traffic control audio transcript, declassified Department of Transport files, and the radar anomalies from that night.
