"Wait For The Signal": The Lead Masks Mystery of Vintém Hill (1966)
"16:30 be at the agreed location. 18:30 swallow capsules. After effect, protect metals. Wait for agreed mask signal."
In August 1966, a young boy searching for his kite on the steep overgrown slopes of Vintém Hill in Brazil discovered the bodies of two electronics technicians lying side-by-side in formal business suits and heavy raincoats.
Resting over their eyes were hand-crafted shields forged from solid lead.
When detectives and coroners examined the scene, they found no physical wounds, no signs of a struggle, and zero traces of blood. Beside the men sat an empty water bottle, two damp towels, and a cryptic handwritten checklist dictating precise minute-by-minute instructions to ingest unknown capsules and shield their eyes from a blinding flash.
Decades later, Brazilian police files still classify the incident as an unresolved anomaly.
