Brits are bracing for sleet and hailstorms in the northwest The weather bureau has issued a series of new warnings for almost every region, telling Britons that their travel could be hampered by snow and ice after dozens of people were injured in car accidents. Snow is likely to return, with 5-10cm snowfall possible at elevations above 100m. Parts of the UK have been covered in snow and ice amid warnings that cold weather will continue. Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice are in effect for Northern Ireland, North West England, and North Wales from noon Drivers have been warned to allow extra time for morning commutes due to icy roads and trips are expected to be interrupted. The meteorological office adds that 1-3 cm of additional snow is likely to fall in areas further from the immediate coast, as "snow showers and ice patches may cause some disruption." Winter downpours are expected to bring their share of disruptions due to ice and snow, causing delays and cancellations on roads, buses, and trains. By Thursday morning, winter showers are likely to turn to rain or hail on the coasts, as well as in the Northern Isles. Areas under a yellow warning include Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and southern England. Among the most affected regions are Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Na Eilian Ciar, Highlands, Orkney, Shetland, and Argyll and Bute. Police have warned drivers to drive carefully as slippery roads have led to "many accidents". According to the Surrey Police Alert, the weather service has recommended that additional time be allowed for any scheduled trips this morning as the ice will affect many regions.
