This song was written by vocalist Ben Barlow and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. In an interview with *Kerrang!*, they revealed that the track stemmed from a shared experience of loss. Fil Thorpe-Evans explained that he had recently lost his father at the time. While still grieving, he received news that a childhood best friend had also passed away in an accident. This series of events led him into a "strange phase of reflection," which is where the writing of the song began. While Ben Barlow wrote the chorus, Fil worked on the music and the verses.
