Apple’s Foldable iPhone Has a 100+ Part Problem

Apple finally made a foldable iPhone. But the screen isn’t the most interesting part. The real engineering challenge is everything around it. Apple’s iPhone Duo uses a 7.6-inch folding display, a new mechanical architecture, Touch ID built into the side button, and a precision hinge made from more than 100 components. Because when a phone folds, almost everything has to change. The hinge has to control movement. The structure has to stay rigid. The display has to survive repeated folding. And every component has to work inside that new architecture. The breakthrough isn’t just making a screen bend. It’s building an entire iPhone around the bend.
