A New Crater Was Discovered on the Moon—222 Meters Wide!

A new crater has been discovered on the Moon. Named McGetchin Crater, it was created when a small cometary or asteroidal fragment struck the lunar surface in 2024. The crater is approximately 222 meters wide and 43 meters deep. Scientists believe the impact came from a space rock several meters in size. Because the Moon has almost no thick atmosphere, incoming objects can reach the surface and leave a lasting impact crater.
