New soil testing at the boat-shaped Durupınar formation is raising some serious questions. Samples taken from inside the formation reportedly showed nearly 3× more organic matter, much higher acidity, and 38% more potassium than the surrounding soil. Researchers say those findings could be consistent with decayed organic material and compounds associated with wood and pitch — while the lack of a phosphorus spike may argue against long-term human or animal habitation.
