The Secretary Bird: The Bird That Stomps Snakes to Death

It walks up to the deadliest snakes in Africa... and stomps them to death. 🪶 This is the true story of the secretary bird — a four-foot raptor with the legs of a crane, the eyelashes of a model, and a kick that lands with five times its own body weight in fifteen milliseconds. It does not hunt from the sky like other birds of prey. It marches across the savanna on foot, up to thirty kilometres a day, dancing around cobras and black mambas with its wings spread like a matador's cape — and it is not even immune to their venom. Ancient Egypt carved it in stone. South Africa put it on its coat of arms. And now this fearless snake executioner is endangered, vanishing from the grasslands it has patrolled for thousands of years.
