"3 Million Hectares of Indigenous Forest Destroyed: The Ecocide in Merauke You’re Not Being Told About"
"This is what a climate crime looks like." 💔
On October 28, 2026, we stood on what used to be the dense, vibrant, and sacred ancestral forests of the Kwipalo clan in Bor Village, Jagebob District, Merauke, Papua. Today, it is a barren wasteland of dust, smoke, and piled logs.
The Indonesian government’s "National Strategic Project" (PSN) is currently wiping out 3 million hectares of indigenous customary lands in Merauke. It’s not just a statistic—it is the systematic erasure of local ecosystems, the home of thousands of unique endemic species, and the life support system of Papua’s indigenous people who have protected this land for generations.
The air is burning, the life is gone, and the local communities are left broken-hearted as their trees are bulldozed and burned into smoke.
Papua is NOT a vacant territory up for grabs. Merauke belongs to its people. We need the world to look, share, and act before there is nothing left.
