850 Russian Troops Killed l Kyiv Raises Alarm On Iranian Missiles
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of a potential looming assault by Moscow during a press conference in Odesa. Zelensky said Russia was not ceasing its attacks on the front lines in eastern Ukraine, and pouring in more fighters from the Wagner group. Heavy fighting continues in eastern Ukraine, specifically in and around the city of Bakhmut. A Ukrainian fighter described the situation as "a living hell" as Russian forces try to take control of the Kostiantynivka highway. Ukraine’s General Staff said that Russian forces continue to conduct offensive operations in four directions. Kyiv said that Russian forces are setting up additional field hospitals in the Luhansk region due to heavy losses. Ukraine said its forces have killed 850 Russian soldiers on Jan. 30. Governor of Russia’s Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, said that additional forces have arrived in the region. Ukraine’s military has warned that it doesn’t have the means to defend itself if Russia obtains Iranian ballistic missiles for use in the war. A former Wagner mercenary has said that the brutality he witnessed in Ukraine ultimately pushed him to defect. Joe Biden has said he wouldn't send American F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, even as the US ramps up military aid to Kyiv. Zelensky’s most senior adviser has suggested that Poland is willing to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets. French President Macron said he would not rule out the delivery of fighter planes to Ukraine but warned against the risk of escalation. Croatia’s president Zoran Milanovic has criticised Western nations for supplying Ukraine with heavy tanks and other weapons against Russia.
