The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a large carnivorous feline species native to Asia. They are the largest of all big cats and are known for their distinctive orange coat with black stripes. They have strong, muscular bodies and powerful jaws, which they use to hunt a variety of prey, such as deer, wild boar, and livestock. Tigers are solitary hunters and are mostly active at night. They are excellent swimmers and can traverse through deep water to catch prey. They are also fast runners and can reach speeds of up to 60 km/h (37 mph) over short distances. There are six subspecies of tigers, three of which are extinct: the Javan tiger, the Balinese tiger, and the Caspian tiger. The remaining three subspecies are the Bengal tiger, the Indochinese tiger, and the Siberian tiger.
