Monkeys are primates, a group of mammals that also includes apes and lemurs. There are over 260 species of monkeys, ranging in size from the pygmy marmoset, which can be as small as 4.6 inches (12 cm) long and weigh just over 4 ounces (140 g), to the mandrill, which can grow up to 39 inches (100 cm) long and weigh up to 330 lbs (150 kg). Monkeys are found in a wide range of habitats, including forests, savannas, and deserts, across the world, with the exception of Australia and Antarctica. They are omnivores and feed on a variety of foods, including fruit, leaves, insects, and small animals.
