Two years after the capture of Solomon Lane the remnants of his organization the Syndicate have been transformed into a terrorist group known as the Apostles . Ethan Hunt receives details of a mission to intercept an unknown vendor selling three plutonium cores to the Apostles . Hunt then joins Benji Dunn and Luther Stickell for the mission but the three fail when Ethan chooses to save Luther's life and the plutonium is taken by the Apostles . The team captures and interrogates nuclear weapons expert Nils Debruuk who was supposed to build three portable nukes for the Apostles obtaining thanks to him information about the group.
