Watch an American police officer facing charges for severely beating a teenager of Arab descent
Officer Patrick O'Donnell today was charged by a Cook County judge with "severe battery and official misconduct" for his involvement in the violent arrest of 17-year-old Hadi Abu Atila last July. Activists believe there must be more than one officer charged.
"These are the three people who almost killed someone, and that person was a 17-year-old child... This is what we need not lose sight of," said a key organizer of the American Arab Action Network, Muhammad Sankari.
For his part, O'Donnell's lawyer said, "His client was doing what he was trained to do during the arrest process."
