Switzerland Destroys Outdated Missiles It Could Have Sent to Ukraine, President Defends Neutrality
Switzerland President Alain Berset has said that his country’s neutrality is more important than ever amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war. Berset was defending the controversial ban on transferring Swiss-made arms to Ukraine. The Alpine nation, which is not part of the European Union, has followed the bloc's lead on sanctions targeting Moscow. However, Berne has so far shown less flexibility on its military neutrality. Berset told the NZZ am Sonntag weekly that “Swiss weapons must not be used in wars”. However, the Swiss government is facing opposition from politicians and groups that have called on a relaxation on their re-exporting policy.
