The name "Al-Fatiha" means "The Opening" and refers to the fact that this chapter is recited at the beginning of each prayer, as well as at the beginning of recitation of the Quran. The chapter consists of seven verses, and it begins with praising Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and acknowledging His mercy and guidance. Then, the reciter asks for Allah's guidance and help, and declares his or her submission to Allah's will.
