The song went on to chart hits in the UK, peaking at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart and achieving even more success in the US reaching number number 14. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. In Canada and France, the song was a number 1. At the 67th Academy Awards, the song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The same year the song also won Elton John for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards.
