We’re not completely sure if the universe is infinite just yet, but from how little we currently know about the cosmos, it’s more than justified to say that it is. With that said, you’d be pretty sure there are a bunch of strange planets out there, innumerable to say the least. If you’ve imagined it, it probably exists, somewhere in the bounds of the universe. NASA has been hard at work, peering into the great beyond, looking for these planets, some of which have been baffling the greatest minds. How can a planet be made out of diamonds? What are blanets? And have we really found hell in our universe? Let’s find out. If you’ve ever imagine what it would be like to just wake up one day and find out that you have an unlimited supply of gemstones, this planet has that and more… Also, you’d be pretty sick of gemstones if you lived there. Meet exoplanet, HAT-P-7b, a world 40% larger than Jupiter, orbiting a star 50% more massive than our sun, and some 1,040 light-years away. Astronomers at University of Warwick in Coventry, England announced they’ve detected evidence of powerful changing winds sweeping across this giant exoplanet HAT-P-7b, in 2016. They reckoned that their finding were the first-ever weather report on a gas giant outside our solar system. And I gotta tell you, that is some weather, right there! They report the planet’s clouds could be made of vaporized corundum, the mineral that forms rubies and sapphires. If we could view the planet’s cloud, it would be nothing short of stunning. David Armstrong of Warwick’s Astrophysics Group led the research. He said the strong winds moving across HAT-P-7b likely lead to catastrophic storms. Armstrong and his colleagues researched this using data from NASA’s planet-finding Kepler satellite. They monitored light being reflected from the atmosphere of HAT-P-7b. This exoworld is so close to its star that its dayside is a searing 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit that over 1,900 degrees Celsius.
