Russian T-90 Main Battle Tanks

The range of T-90A/M tanks, rich in modifications, is a legacy of the legendary T-72B family. These combat vehicles began to be built 30 years ago in Nizhny Tagil. Today, their modernization is continued by employees of the state corporation Rostec. The brightest representative - the T-90M "Proryv-3". It differs significantly from its counterparts in terms of security and firepower. The tank is equipped with an advanced reactive armor "Relikt" and additional screens that protect the crew, fuel tanks and ammunition. It is almost impossible to hit the frontal part of the turret, the resistance to kinetic projectiles is 970-1000 mm, and the armor can withstand the hit of the regular American M829A3 armor-piercing projectile. The T-90A is slightly inferior to the "Proryv" (Breakthrough), but together with the Kontakt-5 armor, the resistance of its frontal armor plates is 830-870 mm from armor-piercing and about 1300 mm from HEAT ones. The T-90A and T-90M were equipped with 125-mm smoothbore guns in the 2A46M-5 kit. When using "Svinets-2" shells with a uranium core, the German Leopard 2A4 will not withstand and will be pierced in the frontal projection. The more protected Leopard 2А6 and Abrams will be hit in the weakened sectors of gun mantlets and turret epaulettes. Both tanks can fire using the "Invar-M1" at a distance of about 5 thousand meters, and thermal imaging sights "Essa" and "Sosna-U" allow night combat at a distance of 3 to 5 km. Both modifications of the T-90A and T-90M described above, as well as a certain number of T-90S tanks, are used in the zone of the Special Operation in Ukraine.
