Zelensky Urges NATO Security Guarantees, 520 Russian Troops Killed

Ukraine military officers have shared images that appear to show destroyed Russian armoured vehicles outside the contested town of Vuhledar. Ukraine's Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi posted the images of tanks and armoured personnel carriers on Telegram. Ukraine’s General Staff said its forces conducted three strikes on Russian air defence system positions. According to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, one Russian Su-25 jet was shot down on April 15. Kyiv has claimed its forces have killed 520 Russian soldiers in the last 24 hours. Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine needs effective security guarantees ahead of a NATO summit in Lithuania in July. Russian FM Sergei Lavrov begins a tour of Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba on April 17. UK’s Defence Ministry reported that Russia has reinstated General Colonel Mikhail Teplinsky amid “intense tensions” in the war.
