Jakarta Capital Special Region
Jakarta or officially known as the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (abbreviated as DKI Jakarta) is the country's capital and largest city in Indonesia. According to Indonesia's administrative division system, Jakarta is a province with special regional status. Jakarta is now a commonly believed metropolis. Jakarta is located on the northwestern coast of Java Island. It was formerly known by several names such as Sunda Kelapa, Jayakarta and Batavia. Jakarta is also called the Big Durian because it is considered the equivalent of New York City (the Big Apple) in Indonesia.
Jakarta has an area of about 664.01 km² (ocean:
6,977.5 km²) with a population of 10,562,088 (2020).
A hub of business, politics and culture, Jakarta is home to the headquarters of state-owned, private and foreign companies. The city is also home to government agencies and the ASEAN Secretariat. Jakarta has two of his airports, Soekarno Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma airports, and his three ports of Tanjung Priok, Sunda Kelapa and Ancol.
