The movie was directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Zachary Levi as Shazam (also known as Captain Marvel), a young boy named Billy Batson who is granted extraordinary powers by a wizard and becomes a superhero. The movie follows Billy Batson as he is taken in by a foster family and must learn to navigate his new life while also fighting the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, who seeks to steal Billy's powers for his own nefarious purposes. Along the way, Billy discovers the true meaning of family and the importance of using his powers for good. Shazam! was generally well-received by critics and audiences alike for its blend of humor and heart, as well as its faithful adaptation of the source material. A sequel, titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is currently in production and set to be released in 2023.
