Movieweb reports that Tom Hiddleston returns as Jonathan Pine in The Night Manager Season 2, which picks up sometime after the first season and introduces Diego Calva as a new arms-dealer antagonist, with Olivia Colman also back as Angela Burr.

Writer David Farr extends the originally standalone le Carré adaptation into new material that shifts away from the novel’s realism toward straightforward undercover drama. Pine is now head of a Night Owls surveillance team; during an operation he recognizes a former mercenary, follows him without authorization, and uncovers links to Teddy Dos Santos (Calva) and a mole, Roxana (Camila Morrone), after his colleague Rex Mayhew is found murdered. The review highlights the season’s cat-and-mouse twists, Georgi Banks-Davies’s lean direction, and strong work from Hiddleston, Calva, Colman and newcomer Hayley Squires.

According to the review, Farr has successfully transformed the one-off story into an ongoing series that leans into TV-style thrills, and the show has already been renewed for a third season.
