PASCAGOULA, Miss. - Pascagoula police confirm one person is dead after a shooting at Ingalls Shipbuilding.
The shooting happened around 7:30 Friday morning on a ship that was under construction.
Police arrested the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Curtis James Jr., of Mobile, Alabama, shortly after the shooting.
Pascagoula Police Chief Terry Scott said both James and the victim Tahj Johnson were employees of Ingalls Shipbuilding.
The investigation is ongoing, but Scott said there was an altercation between the two earlier in the week that could have led to the shooting.
So far, the firearm has not been found, and no other injuries were reported.
The shipyard was put on lockdown for several hours on Friday morning. Employees were then sent home for the day, with pay.
Grief counseling will also be offered to Ingalls employees.
