Billy Magnussen: The Social Reckoning is its own story, not a direct sequel
At the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, Billy Magnussen told Collider that Aaron Sorkin's upcoming film The Social Reckoning is "its own story" and not a direct sequel to The Social Network.
According to Magnussen, the 16-year follow-up centers on a young Facebook engineer, Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), who enlists Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White) to blow the whistle on Mark Zuckerberg (Jeremy Strong). The film stars Magnussen alongside Wunmi Mosaku, Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, Jeremy Strong and Betty Gilpin.
Magnussen praised working with Sorkin, calling him "one of the best writers," and recalled a moment on set when Sorkin gave a precise note about delivering a line as a question because of a question mark in the script.
He called The Social Reckoning "an awesome, awesome movie" but said he "can't really say much" about it. Collider reports the film is slated to be released in October from Sony Pictures.
Beyond Magnussen's teases at Collider's Arby's Cinema Center media studio, he repeatedly said he couldn't share many details; the October release date is the clearest public detail confirmed in the interview.
