A report from Kotaku says Valve still hasn’t revealed the full breakdown of what’s inside its new Steam Machine or how much it will cost. Those details were delayed along with the device’s “early” 2026 launch due to an AI-fueled PC part shortage. Valve wrote in an update on February 4 that 'in our testing the majority of Steam titles play great at 4K 60FPS with FSR on Steam Machine.' The company added that some titles currently require more upscaling and that it may be preferable to play at a lower framerate with VRR to maintain a 1080p internal resolution, and said it is working on HDMI VRR, investigating improved upscaling, and optimizing ray tracing performance in the driver.

Steam users are skeptical, with commenters saying the hardware ‘isn’t there’ to deliver 4K 60FPS on many AAA games and noting lower-end GPUs struggle. It is hard to know what the claim means, since thousands of new games on Steam include many small indie titles that are not very demanding to run.
